If you or someone else is in immediate risk of serious harm or injury you should call the emergency services by dialling 999. If you or someone else needs medical attention, the Accident & Emergency department at the Northern General Hospital is open 24 hours a day every day of the year.

If you need to talk to someone in confidence you can call the Samaritans on the number, above. Lines are open all day, every day. You can also text them or you can email them at email@example.com.
You don’t have to be suicidal to call – the Samaritans are there for anyone who needs to talk.
Non-emergency situations in working hours (Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm)
Are you currently under the care of one of the Community Mental Health Teams?
YES – contact the mental health professional assigned to your care. If they are not available ask to speak to the duty worker. Depending upon the service you are receiving help may be available at other times. If this is the case, the service will provide you with details.
NO – contact your GP practice. If you do not know the number for your GP practice you can find it in the telephone directory or online.
Non-emergency situations outside working hours (evenings and weekends)
You can contact your out-of-hours GP service by phoning the number you would usually use to contact your GP. Someone will be able to advise you over the phone, or arrange an urgent appointment or home visit.
111 is the NHS non-emergency number available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones. You will speak with a trained adviser, supported by healthcare professionals. The adviser will ask you a series of questions to assess your symptoms and direct you to the appropriate medical care for you.
